Janet and Marion

Janet started the dog training business, Guaranteed Dog Training, in April of 1975 in Fresno Ca. then moved the business to Stockton in 1980. When she moved to Stockton, her mother, Marion MacDannald, started to learn how to train and assist with the classes and then later teach classes.

This business has several avenues of services:

  • Obedience with behavior modification dog training classes for beginners, young dogs and home pets.
  • Advance obedience classes.
  • Agility classes.
  • Sell training equipment for these classes.
  • Private lessons in the client's home or business.
  • Dog sitting in our home.
  • Board with training in our home.

Janet and Marion have shown dogs in obedience and have won many first place ribbons and trophies.  Janet has received titles such as ‘DOG WORLD AWARD', ‘HIGHEST SCORING DOG IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA' and ‘SEVENTH HIGHEST SCORING DOBERMAN IN THE NATION'.

Janet and Marion have been to many seminars with top dog trainers from all over the country and have learned all the new methods; the ones that are good were incorporated into the classes.

Janet and Marion both say,

“We are so very LUCKY to get to do what we really LOVE, Working with the dogs.”

Kathy

Kathy started training her young 8 month old female German Shepherd, Mandee in the early Spring of 2006. Kathy was very good with the training and went on to repeat classes then to the Advanced Class. Kathy and Mandee graduated at 1st place in the Advanced Class.

January of 2007 Kathy’s husband, Barry started class with their new 7 month old male German Shepherd, Marshal.

Mandee is now a Therapy Dog and will soon also become a Read Dog with the Paws to Read Program. She also went to Agility Classes and did very well.

Kathy was raised on a small farm in Kansas. They had cows, chickens, dogs, cat and rabbits. She had her own pony she trained herself.

In the late 80’s they move to our area. Now living on a couple of acres of land, they have plenty of room for all the animals to run.

Working with animal comes very natural for Kathy because of her live experiences. We are very fortunate to have Kathy to help with the training classes.

Marie

Marie started bringing her doggies to class in 2002. She was looking for a place to socialize and train her dogs after moving from the Bay Area. It didn't take long to find out that Marie was quite knowledgeable about dog training. She has many titles on many dogs.

Marie started showing dogs in 1976. Her first dog was a Labrador Retriever mixed with German Shepherd. Through the Training Club she belonged to, she titled her dog in obedience. She got a CD, CDX, and a UD. (CD is Companion Dog, CDX is Companion Dog Excellent, UD is Utility Dog). In the eary 80's, Marie was involved in starting the ‘Mixed breed Club of America'. She got a CD and CDX title with her dog through them too. She practiced Tracking with her dog for 3 seasons.

Marie trained a Black and Tan Coonhound and an Irish Setter in the early 80's. She got a CD on both dogs through AKC (American Kennel Club).

Marie got her first Lowchen (Rare Breed) in 1986. She showed him in the mid 80's, his 2 daughters in the early 90's and several others since then. She has received many titles on those dogs throughout the years. Through the ‘Lowchen Club of America ' and got many CH (Champion) in Conformation and CD and CDX titles. She got a few Mexican, Canadian and International CH titles. She got CH titles from the ‘Rare Breed of America' and the'States Kennel Club'.

In 1999 the Lowchen was finally recognized by the AKC. Marie then got CH, CD, CDX titles with the AKC.  She also showed in Agility.

Marie has a ‘Record of Merit' through the ‘Lowchen Club of America ' for having 10 or more CH. Also 9 of her dogs passed the ‘Temperament Test' and more than 10 have a ‘Canine Good Citizen Award'.

Marie owned and ran a Pet Store for 12 years in the Bay Area and sold it in 1995. The last 10 years of owning the pet store, she also did grooming.

Now Marie brings her 2 dogs to class, Sir a 10 year old Lowchen and Rocky a 5 year old Papillon.

Marie says “ I really like the last class because I like to watch the handlers interact with their dogs, now that they can really communicate”.

We are very happy to have Marie as part of the team with all those years of experience.
Michael
Michael

Michael starting training and showing his first dog in 1990 at the early age of 13. He took his first Border Collie to the level of Open A obedience (jumping and retrieving). Michael moved to Stockton from the bay area to work as an EMT in 2006. He started bringing his dogs to GDT at the beginning of 2007 shortly after adopting an extremely shy American Eskimo/ Golden Retriever Mix that desperately needed socialization. Since then he has taken several Border Collies through our Beginning Classes.

Michael enjoys working with very energetic dogs and dogs that need confidence building the most. Currently, Michael pulls from several Central Valley shelters and fosters dogs through the Border Collie rescue of Northern California, Stockton Animal Shelter Friends and recently started working with Pups Rescue of Stockton primarily focusing on rescuing Border Collies.

When he's not helping at dog class, you can often find him participating in class as a student working with one of his foster Border Collies preparing them to enter their new home, using the time to socialize and give them a basic obedience foundation.

Michael says "I enjoy helping owners work with their dogs, I recommend all owners take their dogs through obedience classes, it expands the dog/owner relationship and helps prevent dogs from ending up in our over crowded shelters."

Julie

Julie started bringing her doggies to class in 2005. She has always been an over the top animal lover. Her Dad would say,” Her love for animals must be a birth defect because she could never have just one.”

Julie moved here from the Bay Area where she was a Groomer and bred and showed Persian Cats in 1997. Then she started to bred and show Yorkshire Terriers. This gave her a great fulfillment and a connection with animals. “My love for these incredible little animals is so strong I feel as if they are my kids.” Julie and her husband live on a couple of acres where there is plenty of room for the animals to run.

Julie wanted to do more with her Doggies so that’s when she started the Dog Training Classes. Right away we noticed her great handling skills and natural ability to communicate with the dogs. She started helping with the classes and now is part of the team.

This is what Julie says about her favorite part of training or teaching.
“I love it when I see the doggies or people start to really understand what I am teaching them and there is great progress”.

Julie continues to stay very active in Obedience, Agility and Conformation with her dogs.

Horst

Horst started training his first young puppy with Guaranteed Dog Training in March of 2004. He went through a couple of beginner sessions then went to Advanced Class and graduated. He started helping out at the classes and now he is part of the team!

Horst is 14 years old and attends George McParland Elementary School . He is graduating this year with a GPA of 3.83!

He started training his new puppy in March of 2005. Luna, his first puppy is the black one and Hanna, the new puppy is the chocolate one. “They just love to go and socialize with the other dogs; it is really a bunch of fun for them”.

“I love going to dog class because there are so many dogs there, and I love dogs! I also learn many things. I love working with the medium and bigger sized dogs”.

Horst is very likeable and the youngsters listen to him, he is a great example for them and everyone. “One of the aspects I really like about helping people at class is to reassure them that soon their dog will be an angel. My puppies use to be crazy maniacs, but now all they need is a little halo!”
